(As of Jan-2022, Santanu Halder has moved for Postdoc to LSCE, France. He got awarded PhD on July-2022)

Mr. Santanu doing P.hD. in 'Forward and Inverse Modeling of atmospheric GHG"

He is utilizing the Inverse modeling of long-living greenhouse gases such as CO2 and CH4 using TransCOM type inversion. He has set-up the NIES-TM atmospheric greenhouse gas tracer transport model at IITM. Using this model, he simulates the concentrations of greenhouse gases and validates it with observations from India.

Further, he has implemented the Inverse modeling framework of TransCOM at IITM. In this framework, the implied or prior fluxes of air-land and air-sea CO2 fluxes are optimized using transport function and uncertainty matrices. He uses TransCOM protocol Bayesian Inverse methods.

As a first attempt, an inversion of CO2 fluxes for 22 identified regions over the globe is reproduced at IITM by following the TransCOM protocol of Gurney et al., (2004). One this set up is verified, he has added the observations of atmospheric mole fractions of CO2 collected from India into the inversion. In doing so, he evaluated the value addition brought by Indian Observations in global CO2 flux inversions.

Further, he is into doing time-dependent inversion using the same inversion protocol. Further research is underway.
